Job summary

City of Temple is seeking a Utility Technician to install, repair and maintain water and wastewater systems in Temple, TX. Under supervision, you will operate related equipment and ensure safety and traffic control compliance.

Responsibilities include repairing lines, installing mains and services, locating utilities, and maintaining tools and equipment. A CDL and relevant licenses are required; a strong safety mindset is essential.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Repairs water and wastewater lines; cleans and inspects pipes; installs repair parts and evaluates effectiveness of repair.
• Installs water and wastewater infrastructure including mains, services, and laterals; taps and meters; valves; manholes; hydrants; cleanouts, etc.
• Assists in excavation; operates tools to break rock; uses probes to locate pipes.
• Cleans wastewater lines; unclogs or cleans mains and laterals.
• Performs line locates of water and wastewater infrastructure per Texas One Call laws.
• Cleans and maintains tools and equipment.
• Drives dump trucks and other heavy equipment to haul materials for repair and installation.
• Loads/unloads and operates heavy equipment.
• Installs traffic control per state/federal standards.
• Follows City policies and safety guidelines.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Summary

Utility Technician, under the general supervision of the Crew Leader, installs, repairs, and maintains water and wastewater infrastructure, operating related equipment and ensuring compliance with safety and traffic control standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Repairs water and wastewater lines; cleans and inspects pipes; installs repair parts and evaluates effectiveness of repair


• Installs water and wastewater infrastructure including, but not limited to, mains, services, and laterals; taps and meters; valves; manholes; air relief valves; fire hydrants; cleanouts, etc.


• Assists in excavation; operates air hammer to break rock and asphalt; uses pick and shovel to remove dirt and rock from excavations; uses probe to locate pipes


• Cleans wastewater lines; uses hand and / or machine rods to unclog or clean mains & laterals


• Performs line locates of water and wastewater infrastructure in accordance with Texas One Call laws


• Cleans & maintains tools and equipment


• Drives various trucks, primarily dump trucks, to haul material related to the repair and installation of water and wastewater infrastructure


• Loads, unloads, and operates dump trucks and other heavy equipment


• Installs traffic control in strict accordance with state and federal manuals of traffic control devices


• Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines


• Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
