Job summary

The City of Temple, TX is seeking a Utility Technician who, under the general supervision of the Crew Leader, installs, repairs, and maintains water and wastewater infrastructure, operating related equipment and ensuring compliance with safety and traffic control standards.

Essential duties include repairing lines, installing mains and services, assisting in excavation, performing line locates per Texas One Call, and driving heavy equipment to support repair and installation efforts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Experience with water and wastewater infrastructure is desirable.
• Licenses/certifications listed are required or preferred as stated.

Responsibilities

• Repairs water and wastewater lines; cleans and inspects pipes; installs repair parts and evaluates effectiveness of repair.
• Installs water and wastewater infrastructure including mains, services, and laterals; taps and meters; valves; manholes; fire hydrants; cleanouts, etc.
• Assists in excavation; operates equipment to break rock/asphalt; uses hand tools to remove dirt and rock.
• Cleans wastewater lines; clears clogs in mains and laterals.
• Performs line locates in accordance with Texas One Call laws.
• Loads and unloads heavy equipment and operates dump trucks as needed.
• Installs traffic control per state/federal manuals; follows safety policies.

Summary

Utility Technician, under the general supervision of the Crew Leader, installs, repairs, and maintains water and wastewater infrastructure, operating related equipment and ensuring compliance with safety and traffic control standards.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Repairs water and wastewater lines; cleans and inspects pipes; installs repair parts and evaluates effectiveness of repair
• Installs water and wastewater infrastructure including, but not limited to, mains, services, and laterals; taps and meters; valves; manholes; air relief valves; fire hydrants; cleanouts, etc.
• Assists in excavation; operates air hammer to break rock and asphalt; uses pick and shovel to remove dirt and rock from excavations; uses probe to locate pipes
• Cleans wastewater lines; uses hand and / or machine rods to unclog or clean mains & laterals
• Performs line locates of water and wastewater infrastructure in accordance with Texas One Call laws
• Cleans & maintains tools and equipment
• Drives various trucks, primarily dump trucks, to haul material related to the repair and installation of water and wastewater infrastructure
• Loads, unloads, and operates dump trucks and other heavy equipment
• Installs traffic control in strict accordance with state and federal manuals of traffic control devices
• Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
• Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Class A CDL License and Tanker Endorsement
• TCEQ Licenses C Water and Collection I OR D Water and Collection II
