Job summary

Meriwether Godsey is looking for a Full‑time, Part‑time or Temporary Utility Steward/Dishwasher at Sweet Briar College in Amherst, VA. The pay range is $14–$15 per hour and availability includes days, evenings, and weekends.

You will operate the dish machine, monitor temperatures, assist in dining area setup, and maintain sanitation across kitchen and cafeteria spaces while following food-safety guidelines. Prior dishwashing experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Prior dishwashing experience (1 year preferred).
• Strong work ethic in a fast-paced environment.
• Flexible to switch between tasks as needed.
• Reliable and able to work in hot, humid environments.
• Ability to stand/move for long periods and lift 25 lbs.
• Adheres to company safety and sanitation procedures.
• Good communication and a positive attitude.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate the dish machine to clean and sanitize dishes, trays, silverware, glassware, pots, and pans.
• Record dish-machine temperatures and report issues.
• Transport supplies and assist in dining area setup.
• Clean dining areas and replenish to prevent service interruption.
• Set up and use a three-compartment sink for pots and pans.
• Maintain kitchen sanitation including floors and trash removal.
• Assist with receiving and storing food and follow food safety procedures.
• Perform duties under food safety and sanitation best practices.
• Other duties as assigned.

Availability and Compensation

• Must be available to work Days, Evenings & Weekends
• Pay range: $14–$15 per hour

What You Will Do

• Set up and operate the dish machine for cleaning and sanitizing dishes, trays, silverware, glassware, pots, and pans: scrape, separate, and organize items
• Note and record dish‑machine temperatures, reporting low temperatures or machine malfunctions immediately
• Transport related supplies and assist in the setup of dining and serving areas
• Clean dining and serving areas throughout and after the meal period, and replenish to ensure service without interruption
• Set up and use a three‑compartment sink for cleaning and sanitizing pots and pans
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen and cafeteria areas, including sweeping, mopping floors, and removal of trash
• Assist with receiving and storing food products and food preparation, following correct food‑handling procedures to ensure food safety
• Perform all duties under food safety and sanitation best practices
• Other duties, as assigned
