Job summary

The City of Bastrop is seeking an enthusiastic, customer-focused individual to join our team as a Utility Customer Service Specialist I. This in-office role supports daily utility operations, handles high-volume customer inquiries, and assists with account maintenance, billing support, and deposits.

Bilingual skills in Spanish are preferred. Under supervision, you will perform high-volume customer service functions, process payments, open/close accounts, and coordinate with other departments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; 6 months to 1 year of customer service and admin support experience.
• Exceptional customer service and professional communication abilities.
• Advanced office skills including Microsoft Office Suite and 10-key by touch.

Responsibilities

• Greet the public and handle frontline inquiries via phone, email, and in person.
• Open/close accounts, collect deposits, and update account information.
• Explain billing questions and provide information on rates and fees.
• Process payments and post to customer accounts; maintain cash drawer.
• Prepare forms and manage routine work orders and service connections.
