Job summary

City of Marietta is seeking a journey-level Customer Service Clerk to enter meter data readings and assist customers with billing inquiries. The position is on-site Monday to Friday, with no remote option, reporting to a Supervisor of Customer Service.

Responsibilities include handling billing inquiries, processing connections/disconnections/transfers, deposits, and refunds, and ensuring timely service orders. Strong math and PC skills required; bilingual Spanish is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of two years of related customer service experience.
• Must have a pleasant speaking voice and courteous interaction with customers.
• Spanish language ability is a plus.
• Proficiency with computers and general office procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers (phone or walk-in) with billing inquiries or complaints.
• Process applications for connection/disconnection/transfer of utility service by phone or in person.
• Verify no outstanding/delinquent accounts before processing connection/transfer.
• Determine required commercial deposits based on account size/type.
• Enter meter readings into the computer for accurate billing.
• Process credit card payments by phone and record transactions.
• Handle non-payment service orders and generate disconnection orders as needed.
• Enter refunds and balance transfers for billing adjustments.
• Assist Final Billing Representative with balances and overpayments.
• Relieve Switchboard Operator during lunch hours and vacations.
