Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Preferred: specialized training in basic patient care (Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Nursing student with skills lab).
• On-the-job training and competency verification to perform primary functions.
• Maintains current training in BLS (AHA Healthcare Provider) at time of hire.
• Maintains current certifications in required emergency response training.
• Complete all department competency training within specified timeframe.

Responsibilities

• Courteously greets and directs customers; promotes accurate and timely unit communication.
• Answers telephones and processes information; redirects calls as needed.
• Monitors patients and documents vital signs and actions in patient records.
• Transports patients and handles documentation accordingly.
• Inserts and removes non-medicated IV therapy lines under licensed supervision; performs phlebotomy after training.
• Applies fiberglass splints, casts and traction devices; conducts bedside testing (oximetry, ECG, glucometry, urinalysis).
• Assists with wound care, dressing changes, and prepares patients for surgery.
• Removes gastric and urethral tubes under supervision; assists with enemas and peri care.
• Maintains equipment and supply systems; ensures cleanliness of care areas.
• Delivers specimens and transports X-rays, blood, and equipment.
• Performs basic clerical duties and supports patient nutrition needs.
• Administers oxygen and assists with portability and storage of E cylinders.
• Assists nurses and providers with sterile procedures and activities of daily living.
