Job summary

Qualifications

• High School/GED or higher education in related field.
• Clinical experience OR completion of Unit Secretary course OR self-study module preferred.
• Must successfully complete competency verification before starting on assigned unit.
• BLS required at time of hire.

Responsibilities

• Courteously greets and directs customers. Promotes/facilitates accurate and timely unit communication.
• Answers telephones and processes information, including transcribing physicians orders.
• Compiles paperwork for admissions, transfers and discharges; ensures medical records are complete at discharge.
• Maintains census and bed status; assembles patient charts and files daily.
• Maintains supplies; assists in keeping unit clean and orderly.
• Monitors and records patient data; transports patients and documents actions.
• Assists with nutrition, ADLs, hygiene and patient comfort needs.
• Delivers specimens; transports X-rays and equipment as required.
• Documents all care in patient records; uses computerized documentation system.
• Performs bedside testing and participates in routine unit duties.
