Job summary

American Family Care (AFC) is seeking a Medical Assistant to greet and triage patients, collect vitals and samples, perform CLIA-waived tests, and assist with minor procedures. You will verify insurance, register patients, and collect payments while ensuring EMR accuracy.

The role requires experience with payer portals, BLS certification, and a patient-first, compliant approach in a fast-paced urgent-care setting.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Active national MA certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent) preferred.
• At least 1+ year of experience with insurance verification and patient registration.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to obtain before starting.

Responsibilities

• Clinical care: greet/triage patients, collect vitals/histories, venipuncture, CLIA-waived testing, assist with minor procedures, wound care, EKGs, nebulizer therapy.
• Insurance verification & front desk: register patients, verify eligibility, determine financial responsibility, collect co-pays, reconcile payment logs, maintain EMR accuracy.
• Patient service: educate patients on procedures and financial expectations, provide discharge instructions, de-escalate concerns with empathy.
• Team & compliance: participate in huddles, maintain compliance logs, support infection-control and HIPAA standards.
