Job summary

American Family Care (AFC) is seeking a Medical Assistant to support busy clinics. You’ll greet patients, triage, collect vitals, perform venipuncture, and assist with CLIA-waived tests while ensuring accurate insurance eligibility and EMR data.

The role blends clinical skills with front-desk responsibilities, requiring at least 1 year of insurance verification experience, an accredited MA program, national MA certification at hire, and current BLS.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Active national MA certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent) at hire.
• At least 1+ year of experience with insurance verification and patient registration.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or ability to obtain before starting).
• EMR proficiency (Experity preferred); comfort with payer portals (Waystar).
• Proven venipuncture and specimen collection skills.

Responsibilities

• Greet and triage patients, collect vitals/histories, perform venipuncture and CLIA-waived point-of-care testing, assist with minor procedures, wound care, EKGs, and nebulizer therapy.
• Register patients, verify insurance eligibility, determine financial responsibility, collect co-pays, reconcile payment logs, and maintain EMR accuracy.
• Educate patients on procedures and financial expectations, provide discharge instructions, and de-escalate concerns with empathy and professionalism.
• Participate in daily huddles, maintain compliance logs, support infection-control and HIPAA standards.
