Job summary

American Family Care (AFC) is seeking a Medical Assistant to support fast-paced urgent care centers. You will greet patients, triage, draw blood, perform CLIA-waived tests, and assist with minor procedures while ensuring accurate insurance eligibility and care documentation.

Ideal candidates have completed an accredited MA program, hold an active MA certification, at least 1 year of insurance verification and registration experience, BLS, and EMR familiarity (Experity preferred).

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Active national MA certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent) at hire.
• At least 1+ year of experience with insurance verification and patient registration.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or ability to obtain before starting).
• Urgent care or emergency room experience highly valued.
• EMR proficiency (Experity preferred); comfort with payer portals (e.g., Waystar).
• Proven venipuncture and specimen collection skills.

Responsibilities

• Greet/triage patients, collect vitals/history, venipuncture, POC testing, assist procedures, wound care, EKGs, nebulizer therapy.
• Register patients, verify insurance eligibility, determine financial responsibility, collect co-pays, reconcile payment logs, EMR accuracy.
• Educate patients on procedures and financial expectations, provide discharge instructions, and de-escalate concerns with empathy and professionalism.
• Participate in daily huddles, maintain compliance logs, support infection-control and HIPAA standards.
