Job summary

UCI Health is seeking a Senior Cook to develop and implement upscale, culturally diverse menus for patient care, retail operations, and catered events. The role involves preparing and cooking from scratch and some convenience items, while maintaining sanitation and safety standards across the Medical Center Cafeteria and special functions.

Qualifications

• Verbal and written English communication skills.
• Skilled in various cooking techniques and following recipes for regular and therapeutic diets.
• Previous experience as a cook in main kitchen and/or cafeteria.
• Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
• Must be able to work alternate schedules (days/nights, weekends, holidays).
• Knowledge of common cooking terminology, mathematics and standard weights and measures.
• Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System.

Responsibilities

• Conception and implementation of upscale, culturally diverse menus and recipes for patient care, retail operations and catering services.
• Prepare, season and cook according to recipes using basic ingredients and some convenience items.
• Ensure cost control, requisitioning and proper storage of food items, and adherence to sanitation procedures.
• Comply with policies outlined by JCAHO, UC Medical Center and UC Irvine.
