Job summary

Lakeside School in Seattle seeks an Upper School Counselor to support students in grades 9-12 with social, emotional, and developmental needs. You will be part of the Student Support Team, providing direct counseling, crisis intervention, and collaboration with families and teachers to promote student well-being.

The role emphasizes culturally responsive practices, coordination of accommodations, and ongoing professional development in diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in counseling, school counseling, psychology, school psychology, marriage and family therapy, or social work.
• Training and experience with safety and risk assessment.
• Experience with diverse high school populations.
• Commitment to culturally responsive counseling and ongoing professional development.
• Must satisfactorily complete two criminal background checks.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct 1:1 and small group counseling, including crisis intervention and risk triage.
• Conduct safety assessments and follow school safety protocol.
• Assist with academic accommodations and case management for students with diagnosed mental health needs.
• Liaise with parents, faculty and outside providers on student mental health issues.
• Educate on culturally relevant social-emotional topics to students and staff.
