Job summary

Lakeside School in Seattle, WA seeks an Upper School Counselor for the 2026-2027 school year. This full-time 1.0 FTE position supports grades 9–12 with a focus on social, emotional, and developmental needs.

The counselor will provide culturally responsive services, collaborate with the Student Support Team, and help ensure student well-being within a 10-month appointment starting early November 2026.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in counseling or a related field.
• Training and experience with safety and risk assessment.
• Experience with diverse high school populations.
• Culturally responsive counseling with awareness of identity and culture.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and maintain boundaries.
• Completion of two criminal background checks.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct 1:1 and small group counseling, including crisis counseling and triage assessments.
• Conduct crisis intervention and safety assessments per the school protocol.
• Manage academic accommodations processes and case management for students with qualifying mental health diagnoses.
• Liaise with parents, faculty, and administrators on student mental health issues.
• Educate students and faculty on culturally relevant social-emotional topics.
• Attend and participate in Student Support Team meetings and related discussions.
• Participate in student retreats and broader support meetings.
• Maintain an open, inviting counseling center environment for diverse student groups.
