Job summary

Lakeside School in Seattle, WA, is seeking a full-time Upper School Counselor for the 2026-2027 school year. The counselor will support grades 9–12, collaborate with the Student Support Team, and provide direct counseling, crisis intervention, and academic accommodations as part of a comprehensive student wellbeing program.

The role emphasizes culturally responsive practice, confidentiality ethics, and involvement in the school community, with a targeted start in early November 2026.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in counseling, school counseling, psychology, or related field.
  • Experience with a range of treatment options for a diverse high school population.
  • Experience with safety and risk assessment.
  • Culturally responsive counseling with cross‑cultural awareness.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Familiarity with confidentiality laws and ethics for adolescents in schools.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct 1:1 and small group culturally responsive counseling services, including crisis counseling.
  • Conduct crisis interventions and safety assessments per the school safety protocol.
  • Facilitate academic accommodations and case management for students with documented mental health needs.
  • Serve as liaison with parents, teachers, and administrators on student mental health.
  • Deliver education on social‑emotional topics to students and faculty.
  • Attend twice weekly Student Support Team meetings and collaborate with other counselors.
  • Engage in student retreats and broader support meetings related to student well‑being.
  • Maintain an open, inclusive counseling center atmosphere for diverse groups.
  • Contribute to co‑curricular activities and stay current on professional development.
