Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a dedicated Media & Public Relations Officer for their Upington, Northern Cape office. You will manage the public image, nurture relationships with local media and community stakeholders, and create engaging content.

The role requires strong writing, storytelling, and PR knowledge within the regional context, plus the ability to collaborate with internal teams and respond to inquiries.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
• 2–4 years of experience in public relations or a communications role.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with editing and proofreading skills.
• Proven ability to build relationships with media professionals.
• Experience in writing press releases and pitching stories.
• Familiarity with social media platforms and digital tools.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement effective media and public relations strategies.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with local journalists, media outlets, and community leaders.
• Write and edit press releases, newsletters, media kits, and other communication materials.
• Pitch stories and secure positive media coverage in regional and national publications.
• Monitor media coverage and report on its impact and effectiveness.
• Respond to media inquiries and assist with public information requests.
• Support the planning and execution of PR events and community engagement activities.
• Assist in the development of crisis communication plans and provide support during critical situations.
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent messaging and brand representation.
• Maintain an up-to-date database of media contacts and relevant stakeholders.
