Placements24 is assisting in recruiting a Media Relations Officer for a well-established media and public relations firm in Welkom, Free State. The role focuses on managing media presence, cultivating journalist relationships, pitching stories, drafting press releases, and monitoring coverage.

The ideal candidate will have 2–5 years of media relations experience, strong writing and pitching skills, and the ability to drive impactful PR outcomes in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
• 2-5 years of experience in media relations, public relations, or journalism.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong pitching abilities.
• Proven ability to secure media placements.
• Strong understanding of the media landscape and current trends.
• Proficiency in media monitoring tools and social media platforms.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple deadlines.
• A proactive and collaborative team player.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain strong relationships with local and national media contacts.
• Develop and execute media outreach strategies to secure positive coverage.
• Write and distribute press releases, media advisories, and other PR materials.
• Monitor media coverage and prepare regular reports on media activity.
• Identify and pitch compelling story ideas to relevant journalists and media outlets.
• Assist in managing media inquiries and coordinating interviews.
• Support the planning and execution of press events and media briefings.
• Research industry trends and competitor media activities.
