Sheppard Pratt Health System in Towson, MD seeks an experienced Unit Manager for the 21-bed Thought Disorders Unit, serving patients with psychotic illnesses under a multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities include 24-hour operational management, budget oversight, staffing with safe therapeutic care, and clinical leadership in care planning.

A Bachelor’s in nursing and active Maryland RN license are required; experience in inpatient psychiatric nursing is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nursing and at least 2 years of inpatient psychiatric nursing experience.
• For those without a bachelor's degree, a diploma nursing program with at least 4 years of inpatient psychiatric nursing experience.
• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Maryland.

Responsibilities

• Provide 24-hour operational management of the unit.
• Manage expense budgets and staffing to meet census and budget targets.
• Respond to changes in patient acuity and census to maintain a safe, therapeutic environment.
• Utilize clinical expertise in direct patient care, consultative activities, staff development, and treatment planning.
• Participate in marketing activities and promote teamwork, quality improvement and customer relations.
• Supervise nursing, rehabilitation services, and support staff.

Description

TheThought Disorders Unitat Sheppard Pratt Health System is a 21-bed unit that treats patients with psychotic illnesses, including Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, Bipolar Disorders, as well as Neuropsychiatric Disorders. Patients are treated under the expert care of experienced psychiatrists, nursing, and other clinical staff. With an average length of stay between 10 and 14 days, theThought Disorders Unit is unique as it is one of the few specialized units across the country that specifically cares for patients with psychotic illnesses.

What to expect.

As a Unit Manager you will:

• Provide 24-hour operational management of the unit
• Manage expense budget(s) of assigned clinical programs and maintain clinical environment and staffing strategy that enables the program to maintain or exceed budgeted census
• Respond to changes in patient acuity and census and make appropriate adjustments to ensure the maintenance of a safe and therapeutic environment of care; respond to changing program needs that meet internal and external requirements
• Utilize clinical expertise in the delivery of direct patient care, consultative activities, staff development, and treatment planning
• Participate in appropriate marketing activities, promoting effective team-building, quality improvement and strong orientation toward customer relations
• Supervise nursing, rehabilitation services, and support staff

The pay range for this position is $96,772.21 to $159,458.83/year. Pay for this position is determined on a number of factors, including but not limited to, years and level of related experience.

What we need from you.

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited nursing program and at least 2 years of progressively more responsible inpatient psychiatric nursing experience.
  • Individuals without a bachelor's degree may be considered if they have completed a diploma nursing program and have at least 4 years of progressively more responsible inpatient psychiatric nursing experience.
• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Maryland
