Job Summary

Provides administrative support to unit-based and hospital-wide clinicians and staff in an inpatient unit, functioning as the liaison between the patient, visitors, and clinicians. Responsible for organizing priorities, completing tasks on time, and managing confidential patient information. Partners with nursing to coordinate patient flow, including communication regarding admissions, discharges, and transfers. Also provides outstanding service for customer interactions. Essential Functions
  • Performs clerical duties to assist in the administration of the floor or unit.
  • Greets and interacts professionally with patients, families, visitors, and coworkers.
  • Manages information at the central nursing station and throughout the unit.
  • Schedules consultations, tests, procedures, and patient transport.
  • Enters accurate and timely information into electronic medical records.
  • Contacts ancillary departments for equipment, services, and supplies; tracks status and location; facilitates repairs.
  • May assist with payroll, staff scheduling, or supervision of unit secretaries; duties vary by department.
Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required; Associate's Degree preferred. This role does not accept experience in lieu of a degree.

Licenses and Credentials: Unit Coordinator Certification (preferred).

Experience: 2-3 years of administrative support experience required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency with office procedures and equipment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Excellent proofreading, editing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
