Job summary

Yale NewHaven Health is seeking a Clerk/Receptionist to join our clinical support team in New Haven. You will greet patients and visitors, answer calls, schedule appointments, and perform essential clerical tasks to keep the unit running smoothly.

Responsibilities include maintaining patient flow, coordinating with clinical staff, and ensuring a courteous, professional environment. Prior healthcare clerical experience preferred, with strong computer usage skills highly regarded.

Qualifications

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent GED is required.
  • One (1) to Two (2) years administrative clerical experience preferably in a patient care environment or current active YNHHS internal experience covering Business Associate/ Unit Associate responsibilities.
  • Prior computer usage strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as receptionist, greeting and interacting with patients, visitors and others.
  • Greets all patients and visitors in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Performs various unit clerical tasks including mailing, messages, record-keeping, typing, and filing.
  • Distributes mail, utilizes paging system, takes and delivers messages for unit personnel.
  • Handles patient appointment system; Schedules patient appointments in coordination with the clinical staff.
  • Interacts with all others in a manner consistent with excellent hospital public relations.
  • Demonstrates professional and courteous manner during interactions with patients, hospital staff, physicians and their office staff, and with all other contacts.
  • Maintains safe, clean, and organized environment in all clerical areas.
  • Respects patients' rights at all times identified within the institution.
  • Assists in maintaining supplies at appropriate inventory levels.
  • Performs efficiently in emergency situations as directed.
  • Appropriately seeks information or assistance from administrator, or other resource people.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent GED is required.

EXPERIENCE

One (1) to Two (2) years administrative clerical experience preferably in a patient care environment- or- current active YNHHS internal experience covering Business Associate/ Unit Associate responsibilities. Prior computer usage strongly preferred.
