Job summary

UAB Medicine seeks a Part-Time Administrative Clerk to support the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) at UAB St. Vincent's East in Birmingham, AL.

This role handles general clerical duties, greets patients and visitors, screens calls, and supports the care team with timely patient scheduling and chart assembly. Responsibilities include coordinating meetings, maintaining timekeeping and staff schedules, and assisting clinicians with order entry processes and transfers as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required or equivalent.
• 1 year of related clerical experience preferred.
• BLS certification preferred or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and visitors, answer/screen/route calls, file, distribute mail and perform general clerical duties.
• Schedule patients for appointments and coordinate with care teams.
• Assist Physicians/Clinicians with programs/software for order entry, transfers and discharges; assemble and maintain patient charts.
• Coordinate meetings, schedule rooms, send notices, and maintain meeting minutes; enter timekeeping changes and staff schedules.

Job Description

Perform administrative and clerical duties in support of an assigned clinical area.

• Greet patients and visitors, answer/screen/route telephone calls, files, distribute mail and performs other general clerical duties.
• Communicate with patients, families, physicians and other healthcare team members about patient care according to protocol. Schedule patients for individual appointment and in a timely manner.
• Provide assistance with programs/software for Physicians/Clinicians through the order entry processes, transfers and discharges. Assemble and maintain patient charts.
• Coordinate meetings/schedules meetings/rooms with the appropriate person, send notices as requested. Maintain meeting minutes. Enter and maintain timekeeping changes and staff schedules in computer systems.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Minimum Requirements:

• High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
  • Note: Required professional licensure/certification can be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.
