The University of North Georgia (UNG) is seeking an Undergraduate Research Associate for the CARE Framework project at UNG-Dahlonega, GA. This part-time, temporary role offers hands-on experience with focus groups, data transcription, and dissemination activities led by faculty researchers.

You will work under PI supervision alongside a graduate student and other investigators, gaining exposure to research methods and IRB protocols while supporting cross-campus activities.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled at the University of North Georgia in a minimum of six credit hours.
  • Currently enrolled as a junior or senior at UNG.
  • Minimum 2.7 GPA.
  • Major or minor in CAL disciplines (Communication Studies, Psychology, Sociology, English, Education, or related).
  • Experience with research methods, writing, or social sciences recommended.
  • Experience taking notes, academic writing, or tutoring helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Focus Group Support: co-facilitate semi-structured focus groups across UNG campuses.
  • Data Management & Transcription: transcribe focus group recordings and review transcripts for accuracy; anonymize transcripts per IRB.
  • Dissemination & Closeout Support: assist with final CARE Framework summary report and webinar materials; help coordinate dissemination webinar.

Job Summary

The College of Arts and Letters at the University of North Georgia has received a grant from the Educating Character Initiative (ECI) to develop the CARE Framework ¿ a research-informed character development model centered on Compassion, Acceptance, Respect, and Empathy. The project spans all five UNG campuses and involves focus groups with diverse student populations (Hispanic/Latinx, first‑generation, honors, adult learner, and military‑affiliated students), institutional analysis, and community-wide dissemination.
This Undergraduate Research Assistant (RA) role is an excellent opportunity for a motivated senior student to gain real‑world research experience on a funded, faculty‑led project. The RA will work under the direct supervision of the PI and alongside a graduate student research assistant and two faculty Co‑Investigators.

Responsibilities
  • Focus Group Support
  • Assist PI and co-investigators in co-facilitating semi-structured focus groups with student participants across all five UNG campuses
  • Help manage session logistics: room setup, consent form collection, audio/video recording equipment, participant check-in, note-taking, and so on

  • Data Management & Transcription
  • Coordinate or conduct transcription of focus group recordings; review auto-generated transcriptions for accuracy
  • Anonymize all transcripts according to IRB protocols (replace participant names/identifiers with participant codes)
  • Maintain organized file structure and naming conventions across all project data folders

Required Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled at the University of North Georgia in a minimum of six (6) credit hours to qualify as a student worker.
  • Currently enrolled as a junior or senior at the University of North Georgia.
  • Minimum 2.7 GPA
  • Major or minor in Communication Studies, Psychology, Sociology, English, Education, or another CAL discipline.
  • Should have prior coursework in research methods, writing, or social sciences.
  • Should have experience in note-taking, academic writing, or peer mentoring/tutoring.
  • Should have experience working with diverse student populations in academic, community, or extracurricular settings.
