Job summary

University of Southern California's Marshall School of Business seeks an Academic Advisor to join the Office of Undergraduate Advising and Student Affairs, supporting over 4300 majors and 1400 minors. The hybrid role focuses on counseling, curriculum guidance, progress monitoring, and collaboration with faculty to resolve student issues.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher in a related field.
• 2+ years of experience providing academic advisement to undergraduate students.
• 2+ years of experience with increasing responsibilities in higher education settings.
• Strong communication skills to work with diverse constituents including students, families, faculty, and staff.
• Ability to manage multiple programs and responsibilities simultaneously.
• Ability to collaborate to meet student needs and department priorities.
• Ability to handle sensitive information within FERPA guidelines.
• Ability to be flexible with changing priorities and workloads.
• Experience with office management software and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic counseling for undergraduate students.
• Advise on curriculum, course and degree requirements, transfer credit evaluation, and graduation counseling and clearance.
• Monitor student progress, maintain academic records, and assist with petitions.
• Advise students individually and in groups as part of assigned programs.
• Meet with parents, faculty, and campus partners to provide information and resolve problems.
• Evaluate student issues and refer to appropriate services.
• Liaise with other offices to facilitate problem resolution.
• Interface with faculty, administrators, and students regarding policies and progress.
• Maintain currency on registration, transfer credit evaluation, course and degree requirements, graduation requirements, petitions, and other services.
• Assist in developing and implementing program policies and procedures.
• Assess targeted student needs and recommend programs or services.
• Assist in planning and delivering student programs, services and events.
• Coordinate student events and co-curricular programs.
• Collaborate with faculty and staff to update information and enlist support.
• Help plan special programs such as advisor programs and mentoring groups.
• Provide leadership and supervise student workers and volunteers.
• Assist in developing skills through planning and coordinating services.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
