Job summary

San José-Evergreen Community College District through Evergreen Valley College is seeking a Counselor for the Umoja/AFFIRM program. The role is a full‑time, 11‑month assignment within the Division of Student Services, with possible day/evening responsibilities and calendar adjustments.

The successful candidate will provide counseling across academic, career and personal domains, support studentSuccess Plan mandates, and collaborate on outreach strategies to improve retention and equity outcomes.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Counseling or related field as listed above.
• Equivalent with MFT license is an alternative qualification per title 5, section 53410.1.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic, vocational, career, personal and guidance counseling for AFFIRM students.
• Coordinate counseling components for SSSP mandates and equity objectives.
• Participate in outreach and liaise with high schools and community partners.
• Refer students to campus and community resources as appropriate.
• Collaborate to develop and evaluate outreach and retention strategies.
• Maintain required record keeping and course syllabi.
