Qualifications

• Must have detailed knowledge of ultrasound physics and cross-sectional anatomy to perform independent procedures.
• Must be able to use computer systems and basic software, including Microsoft Office.
• Must possess patient care and communication skills across all age groups.
• Must read, write, and speak conversational English.
• Must learn Radiology software packages and PACS and adapt to departmental policies.

Responsibilities

• Performs high-quality diagnostic ultrasound exams in accordance with provider orders and protocols.
• Verifies patient identity and exam appropriateness and obtains necessary clinical history prior to scanning.
• Positions patients and equipment to acquire optimal images, waveforms, and data.
• Maintains accurate and timely documentation within the EMR and PACS systems.
• Explains procedures to patients, ensuring comfort, cooperation and privacy throughout the exam.
• Educates patients about the exam and completes all exams in a timely manner.
• Operates imaging equipment safely, including scanners, injectors and monitors, adapting protocols as needed.
• Practices infection control and uses PPE and disinfectants.
• Follows department protocols for patient identification, informed consent and time-out procedures.
• Collaborates with radiologists to ensure appropriate imaging and continuity of care.
• Ensures exam rooms are clean, stocked and safe, and equipment is maintained.
• Notifies staff when inventory is low.
• Acquires and analyzes ultrasound images and data for radiologist review.
• Completes the ultrasound technologist worksheet with clear documentation.
• Sterilizes transducers and maintains hygiene and safety standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
