Job summary

Cala Health in San Francisco, CA, is seeking a Senior UI/UX Designer to own visual design and UX flows across web and mobile, from wireframes through high-fidelity UI and motion design.

You will collaborate with Product and Engineering to deliver accessible, compliant interfaces for regulated healthcare devices, build and maintain design systems, and lead cross-functional reviews.

A strong portfolio, proficiency with Figma, and knowledge of WCAG, HIG, Material Design, and HIPAA are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of digital UI/UX or product design with shipped web/mobile products.
  • Experience with healthcare platforms under HIPAA regulations and PHI constraints.
  • Deep knowledge of Apple HIG and Google Material Design.
  • Deep knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards and inclusive design.
  • Experience developing accessibility-driven user interfaces.
  • Familiarity with IEC 62366 and FDA Human Factors guidance.
  • Experience with documentation and version-control in regulated environments.
  • Experience in Agile/Scrum with Product, Engineering, QA.
  • Portfolio with end-to-end UX across connected platforms.
  • Frontend literacy in HTML/CSS, React or SwiftUI.

Responsibilities

  • Own visual design and UX flows across web and mobile, from wireframes to high-fidelity UI and motion design.
  • Meet WCAG accessibility standards throughout design execution.
  • Design dashboards and data displays turning complex data into actionable clinical insights.
  • Create Cala Health's design language and system, including component library, tokens, and versioning.
  • Conduct VOC research, interviews, and usability testing with Product Management.
  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering on high-fidelity design docs for notifications and feedback across devices.
  • Author and maintain UI/UX docs, redlines, specs with rigorous version control for handoff.
  • Lead cross-functional design reviews from concept to implementation.
  • Scale design operations in a regulated medical device environment.

Job description


  • Own visual design and user experience flows across web and mobile (iOS/Android), from flows and wireframes through high-fidelity UI, interaction, and motion design

  • Meet accessibility standards, including WCAG, throughout design execution

  • Design flows, dashboards, and data displays that turn complex data into actionable clinical insights

  • Create Cala’s visual and interaction design language and supporting system, including component library, design tokens, and versioning

  • Conduct Voice of Customer research, interviews, and usability testing with Product Management

  • Partner with Product and Engineering on high-fidelity design documents, including notifications and feedback moments across connected devices

  • Author and maintain UI/UX documentation, redlines, and specifications with rigorous version control for engineering handoff

  • Lead cross-functional design reviews from concept through implementation

  • Scale design operations in a regulated medical device environment


Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Interaction Design, related disciplines, or equivalent practical experience

  • 3+ years of digital UI/UX or product design experience with shipped web and mobile products

  • Experience with healthcare platforms for patients and/or clinicians within HIPAA regulations and PHI constraints

  • Deep understanding of Apple Human Interface Guidelines (HIG) and Google Material Design

  • Deep knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards and inclusive design

  • Experience developing accessibility-driven user interfaces

  • Familiarity with IEC 62366 and FDA Human Factors guidance

  • Experience with documentation and version-control rigor in regulated environments

  • Experience in Agile/Scrum environments, partnering with Product, Engineering, and QA

  • Portfolio demonstrating strong visual design sensibility and end-to-end UX work across connected platforms

  • Proficiency in Figma, including components, auto layout, variables and modes, Dev Mode, prototypes, and design documentation

  • Hands-on experience with AI-assisted design tooling and judgment about its limits in regulated contexts

  • Proficiency in usability testing

  • Experience creating and scaling a design language or design system, including design tokens

  • Front-end literacy in HTML/CSS, React or SwiftUI

  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis, or eligible for work authorization through a sponsorship path Cala Health can support

  • AI use is not permitted during interviews and technical testing
