Job summary

The Oregon Employment Department seeks a Claims Specialist (Compliance Specialist 1) to support unemployment insurance operations. The role emphasizes comprehensive research, accurate data entry, and clear communication with claimants and employers to resolve UI issues.

Qualifications

• Two years’ administrative-research experience including compiling and evaluating facts to recommend action or decide eligibility/compliance with program guidelines and regulations.
• Experience handling high-volume phone interactions with customers.
• Experience communicating laws, rules or policies to customers.
• Experience using Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Teams.
• Commitment to valuing diversity and promoting inclusion.
• Ability to learn and use specialized software.
• Ability to work independently and deliver accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Answer inbound calls from claimants and employers and provide UI status updates.
• Enter claims information into our computerized database from phone/internet sources.
• Analyze claims to determine UI eligibility and apply relevant statutes.
• Quality check claims for completeness and accuracy to meet customer needs and production goals.
• Respond to inquiries, interpret UI rules, and resolve issues on existing claims.
• Answer technical questions about unemployment claims status or wage discrepancies.
• Educate claimants and businesses about UI services.
