Job summary

Tulsa Community College seeks an ASL Lab Specialist to assist students one-to-one and in groups with supplemental learning, and to maintain records of ASL Lab Sessions. The role involves managing appointments and helping with lab resources and events.

The position is on-site, with some online sessions via Zoom, and includes participation in professional training and tutor certification. Books and materials are provided to support student learning.

Qualifications

• Teach and tutor ASL 1–4.
• Fluent in ASL grammar and gloss.

• Willingness to travel between campuses when necessary.

Job Summary

Assist students on one-to-one and group basis with supplemental learning, keep record of ASL Lab Sessions, manage appointments, and assist with ASL Lab resources/social events/workshops. Position is up to 26 hours a week. Limited to 1040 hours in the fiscal year. The position is not remote. Lab sessions are offered in-person and on-line via Zoom. ASL Lab specialists will receive a Zoom account joined to their TCC email. Books and materials are provided to assist the student in their learning. ASL Specialist may also assist in creating resources for ASL lab and social events for ASL students. Specialist will also be required to participate in professional training/tutor certification.

• Assisting students on one-to-one and group basis with supplemental learning.


• Keeping record of ASL Lab Sessions.


• Managing appointments.


• Assisting with ASL Lab resources/social events/workshops

Minimum Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to teach and tutor American Sign Language 1 to 4.


• Fluent in American Sign Language/ASL Grammar/Gloss.


• Demonstrated excellent ASL and written communication skills.


• Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with persons from all backgrounds.


• Demonstrated excellent understanding of Deaf Culture and its communities.


• The ability to travel between campuses when necessary.


• Experience with Zoom and similar online conferencing tools in work related-communications.


• Experience with Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an ASL-related field. Degree requirement may be substituted with equivalent work experience.


• Prefer tutoring/instruction experience in ASL.


• Demonstrated experience at the college level.


• High Score on ASLPI.
