Job summary

Salt Lake Community College seeks a part-time ASL tutor to provide one-on-one and small group tutoring to students enrolled in ASL courses and, when needed, ASL/English interpreting students.

You will converse in ASL, tutor on signs, grammar, and classifiers, and follow department-provided lessons. You will also maintain tutoring records, manage scheduling, and participate in staff meetings and ASL club activities.

Qualifications

• High school Diploma or GED required.
• Native or near-native ASL proficiency required.
• Non-native ASL users must have an A grade in ASL 2020 or pass a proficiency interview.
• Previous ASL tutoring or teaching experience is preferred.
• Interpreter certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Converse in ASL with students in a one-on-one and small group setting.
• Tutor students one-on-one or in small group settings about the correct use of ASL signs, classifiers, and grammar.
• Follow outlined lessons developed by the department.
• Maintain records of tutoring sessions and student lab attendance.
• Maintain a schedule using the online tutor schedule.
• Attend staff and training meetings when requested.
• Attend and support ASL club meetings and activities when requested.
