Job summary

The City of Hialeah Municipal Government is seeking tutors to assist in implementing the daily responsibilities of the literacy program at after-school and summer camp sites. Tutors will track student progress, attendance, and other required paperwork, and support teachers with enrichment activities and homework sessions.

Tutors will maintain lesson plans, prepare supplies, and strive to improve academic outcomes while upholding city policies and safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Previous tutor experience preferred.
• Attend required training sessions to implement program components.
• Ability to provide leadership and work well with children and staff.
• Able to implement enrichment activities or curriculum as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Teacher in implementing the literacy component and related activities.
• Maintain daily progress and attendance reports plus other required paperwork.
• Help with enrichment activities and after-school/summer camp sessions.
• Assist in or lead homework activities.
• Maintain lesson plans and ensure supplies and manuals are ready for each session.

Salary Range:

$14.00 - $50.00DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS OF WORK Tutors will be responsible for assisting the Teachers in implementing the daily responsibilities of the literacy program in which they are trained. Tutors will maintain child progress reports as well as attendance reports and any other required paperwork. They will assist the teachers in improving academic and/or enrichment activities and providing social skills-based activities in the after-school and summer camp at each site. The Tutor will also maintain lesson plans as well as have all necessary supplies, worksheets and manuals readily available at each session. Assist in or lead homework activities.

ESSENTIAL EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

• Assess and track student performance based on grant guidelines.
• Communicate with parents/guardians in a professional and courteous manner.
• Assist the Teacher in the implementation of literacy component and work with camp counselors to ensure successful implementation.
• Uphold all City of Hialeah policies and procedures including those related to safety and risk management.
• Perform any other tasks assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Previous experience with the City of Hialeah After-Care Program and/or Summer Camp preferred.
• Bilingual – preferred.
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Previous tutor experience preferred.
• Attend required training sessions to implement program components.
• Ability to provide leadership and work well with children and staff.
