Job summary

Shelby County Schools is seeking a Before/After-School Certified Tutor to design instructional plans, support students in grades and subject areas, and reinforce classroom learning through structured tutoring.

The role requires an Associate's Degree or at least 48 college credits, and CPR/First Aid certification; experience with children in educational settings is preferred. The tutor will collaborate with teachers and collect data for program evaluation.

Qualifications

• Requires Associate's Degree or two years of college (minimum 48 college hours) and passing ParaPro Assessment Test.
• CPR and First Aid certification required or able to obtain.
• Proof of education, training, and/or experience required.

Responsibilities

• Generates tutoring plans detailing goals and enrichment activities for students.
• Develops and assists students with academic exercises and class activities, including small groups or individuals.
• Prepares and organizes materials and classroom for instruction and other learning activities.

Purpose and Scope

The Before/After-School Certified tutor is responsible for the professional instructions designd to provide academic, social, physical and skill development for students in specifiv grades/subject areas to prepare them to be successful citizens and workers.

Essential Job Functions

• Generates tutoring plans for each student that details individual goals and suggested enrichment activities for both home and during school; assesses and documents student.
• Develops and assists students with academic exercises and class activities; concentrates efforts with small groups of students and individuals, as nescessary.
• Compiles, prepares, and organizes materials and classroom for instruction and other learning activites.
• Reinforces all knowledge and skills taught by the classroom teacher.
• Assists teacher with academic instruction and the instruction of daily routines, skills, and concepts as needed.
• Provides instructional support and reinforcement to students identified in need of tutoring services.
• Utilizes effective instructional practices, behavior management strategies, assessment techniques and directed teaching methods.
• Collects and compiles statistical data as needed for accountability and program development.
• Collects, organizes and completes information necessary for reports and evaluation.
• Communicates and collaborates effectively with teacher.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree, or two (2) years of college (minimum of 48 semester hours) from an, or a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment Test and one (1) year of experience working with children in an educational setting preferred. Must possess or be able to obtain certification in CPR and First Aid. (PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED)

Degree Equivalency Formula:Bachelor's Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.Master's Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master's degrees are required, years for Bachelor's Degrees must be included.
