Job summary

Shelby County Schools in Tennessee seeks an After-School Certified Tutor to support academic, social, physical and skill development for students in designated grades. You will create tutoring plans, guide activities, and reinforce classroom learning during after-school sessions.

The role requires building strong collaboration with teachers, collecting data for program evaluation, and delivering targeted instruction to individuals and small groups.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree or 48 college hours (minimum); ParaPro assessment test passing score preferred.
• One year of experience working with children in an educational setting preferred.
• Must possess or be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certification.

Responsibilities

• Generates tutoring plans for each student detailing goals and enrichment activities for home and school; assesses and documents student progress.
• Develops and assists students with academic exercises and class activities; concentrates efforts with small groups and individuals as necessary.
• Compiles, prepares, and organizes materials and classroom for instruction and other learning activities.
• Reinforces all knowledge and skills taught by the classroom teacher.
• Assists teacher with instructional routines and daily activities as needed.
• Provides instructional support and reinforcement to students identified in need of tutoring services.
• Utilizes effective instructional practices, behavior management strategies, assessment techniques and directed teaching methods.
• Collects and compiles data for accountability and program development.
• Collects, organizes and completes information for reports and evaluation.
• Communicates and collaborates effectively with teacher.

Purpose and Scope

The Before/After-School Certified tutor is responsible for the professional instructions designd to provide academic, social, physical and skill development for students in specifiv grades/subject areas to prepare them to be successful citizens and workers.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree, or two (2) years of college (minimum of 48 semester hours) from an, or a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment Test and one (1) year of experience working with children in an educational setting preferred. Must possess or be able to obtain certification in CPR and First Aid. (PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED)

Degree Equivalency Formula:Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.Master’s Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master’s degrees are required, years for Bachelor’s Degrees must be included.
