Job summary

Urban Outfitters is seeking an Associate Buyer who blends trend-obsessed analysis with data fluency to build an assortment from essentials to viral pieces. You will collaborate with Buying, Planning, and Design to craft a commercially successful collection that resonates with customers.

You’ll contribute to assortment strategy, vendor relationships, and inventory planning while leveraging data insights to guide product recommendations.

Qualifications

• Fashion or merchandising degree or equivalent experience.
• 3 years of experience in a buying or retail role preferred.
• Demonstrate understanding of target customer and relevant product/trend selection.
• Comfort with business metrics and OTB concepts (IMU%, MD%, GM%, selloff, WOS).
• Strong communication with teams, vendors, and cross-functional partners.
• Proactive time management and meticulous attention to detail.
• Ownership mentality and commitment to inclusivity.

Responsibilities

• Assist in building a balanced, brand-appropriate assortment aligned with trends and customer feedback.
• Support core categories while introducing fashion newness and test silhouettes.
• Balance private label and branded products across categories.
• Participate in monthly shop planning and seasonal reviews.
• Monitor fashion trends and provide input on product selection with customer relevance.
• Research new products, suppliers, and vendors to expand the assortment.
• Collaborate with Design to develop fashion-forward styles and web expansion opportunities.
• Communicate with vendors to support development and delivery timelines.
• Assist in Open to Buy (OTB) management and inventory planning.
• Analyze sales velocity, markdowns, returns, and customer behavior to inform buying decisions.
