Job summary

UES, Inc. is seeking a Traveling CMT Field Technician to support geotechnical engineering projects across Texas. The role requires frequent field testing, sampling, and documentation at project sites, with up to 70% travel and work outdoors.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, 3+ years of field experience, and ability to read plans, operate testing equipment, and communicate clearly with project teams. Training and certifications are provided, with opportunities for career advancement.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and technical specifications.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work in outdoor conditions, and travel between job sites.
• Knowledge of ASTM standards and soil classifications.
• Ability to complete field-testing paperwork and detailed figures.

Responsibilities

• Perform field testing on construction materials including soil compaction, concrete slump, air content, temperature, and cylinder sampling.
• Conduct density testing using nuclear gauges or sand cone methods.
• Observe and document field activities according to project specs and standards.
• Collect samples for laboratory testing and deliver to the lab with proper chain-of-custody.
• Prepare clear daily field reports and submit documentation timely.
• Communicate field findings with project managers, engineers, and contractors.
• Ensure equipment is calibrated, maintained, and used properly per QC standards.
• Comply with safety regulations and maintain a safe work environment on job sites.
• Vehicle maintenance and adherence to safety policies.
