Role Overview

The primary role of the Dental Assistant is to support the success of the clinicians through effective delivery of the Perfect Patient Experience (PPE), thus creating a Patient for Life (PFL). Dental assistants perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. They prepare patients for oral examinations and assist dental professionals in providing treatment to the teeth, mouth, and gums. Effective collaboration with co-workers, patients, and the front office is essential.

Specialty Dental Assistants

If assigned within specialty areas such as Endodontics, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Periodontics, or Pediatric, additional training may be required.

Responsibilities
  • Perform functions in accordance with applicable state’s Dental Auxiliaries Table of Permitted Duties.
  • Participate actively in PPE to ensure patients focus on optimal treatment while addressing their needs.
  • Escort patients, introduce them to team members, and communicate effectively with the team to ensure smooth scheduling.
  • Maintain a clean, sterile environment and sterilize instruments according to infection control guidelines.
  • Prepare patients for treatment, assist with procedures, and complete radiographs and intra-oral pictures as directed.
  • Prepare tray setups, maintain supplies, and support patient care with proper documentation and record-keeping.
  • Support clinical and operational functions, including equipment maintenance and inventory management.
  • Participate in team meetings, uphold company culture, and ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED; relevant training courses mandated by state.
  • Certificates, licenses, or registrations as required by state.
  • For Specialty Dental Assistants: valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and reliable transportation; or alternative transportation means.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One-year certificate from an accredited college or technical school or equivalent experience.
Skills and Abilities
  • Effective communication, judgment, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to interpret policies, manuals, and regulations.
  • Proficiency with computer software and technology.
  • Results-oriented, customer service-focused, and self-motivated.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential patient records.

Compensation

$22.75 - $31.75 per hour
