The primary role of the Dental Assistant is to support the success of the clinicians through effective delivery of the Perfect Patient Experience (PPE), thus creating a Patient for Life (PFL). Dental assistants perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. They prepare patients for oral examinations and assist dental professionals in providing treatment to the teeth, mouth, and gums. Effective communication and teamwork are essential.

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform functions in accordance with state regulations.
  • Participate actively in PPE to ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Escort patients and introduce them to team members.
  • Maintain a clean environment and sterilize instruments.
  • Assist with patient preparation and support during procedures.
  • Complete radiographs and intra-oral pictures efficiently.
  • Prepare tray setups and maintain supplies.
  • Instruct patients on oral health care.
  • Document patient information accurately.
  • Support patient care and ensure equipment maintenance.
  • Collaborate with team members and participate in meetings.
  • Adhere to professional appearance and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED; additional training as mandated.
  • Valid licenses and registrations as required by the state.
  • For Specialty Dental Assistants: valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Preferred:

  • One-year certificate from an accredited college or technical school.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Effective communication, judgment, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to interpret policies, manuals, and regulations.
  • Proficiency in computer software and organizational skills.
  • Customer service orientation and ability to work independently or in a team.
