Job summary

American Traveler seeks a Surgical Technologist with at least 2 years of recent experience for a community hospital operating room position.

The role involves day shifts with 4x10 hour shifts, on-call responsibilities with a 20-minute response time, and support across multiple surgical specialties in a fast-paced community hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • BLS certification required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent relevant surgical technology experience required.
  • Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program or military training as scrub tech required.
  • License required if applicable.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the sterile field for surgical operations, including setup of sterile instruments and patient draping.
  • Assist surgeons in gowning and gloving and directly support the surgical team during operations.
  • Pass instruments and supplies, hold retractors, and anticipate surgeons' needs during procedures.
  • Distribute supplies and perform equipment maintenance, testing, and setup as needed.
  • Perform general clerical tasks such as updating patient records and organizing OR paperwork and physician preference cards.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to supply inventory and reorder supplies when necessary.
  • Ensure the operating room is clean and safe before and after procedures.
  • Inspect and calibrate equipment, record QC results, and report malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient health information.
  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations and department policies.
  • May also perform specific procedures or help orient other staff to the department
  • First-time travelers may be considered
  • Returning staff/travelers must have a separation of at least 1 year before returning
  • Maximum RTO of 7 days per contract, with only 1 holiday request approved per contract
  • Local candidates accepted at the local rate within a 50-mile radius

  • On-call responsibilities required with a 20-minute response time, including overnights, weekends, and holidays
  • Typical on-call requirement is one day per week and one weekend per month, subject to change
  • Supports a variety of surgical procedures across multiple specialties
