Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Surgical Technologist for a hospital Surgery unit. The role includes day shifts 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM with rotating weekends, holidays, and on-call duties.

Responsibilities include assisting surgeons, preparing sterile fields, and mentoring other technologists. Requires BLS, fingerprinting, and English fluency; opportunities to work across Carle Health locations may exist.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of surgical technology experience required
• Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology or Certificate of completion required
• BLS certification required
• IDPH Fingerprinting required
• License required if applicable
• Fluent in written and spoken English
• Basic computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, email, and web browser use
• Strong critical thinking and independent decision-making skills
• Multicultural sensitivity required

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeons in performing operative and invasive procedures across various specialties
• Prepare and set up sterile fields, instruments, equipment, and supplies
• Perform in first scrub, first assist, and second scrub roles as needed
• Serve as a resource and informal lead, mentoring and training staff
• Anticipate intra-operative changes and respond calmly to emergencies
• Perform case closing activities and patient transfer
• Collaborate with circulating RN on counts and communication
• Maintain patient privacy and professional conduct in the OR

Responsibilities

• Hospital Surgery department setting
• Day shift schedule, 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday
• Rotating weekend and holiday shift requirements
• On-call availability required outside of scheduled hours, including after-hours, weekends, and holidays
• May float to other Carle Health hospital locations within the system
• Assist surgeons in performing operative and invasive procedures across a variety of surgical specialties
• Prepare and set up sterile fields, instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgeon-specific procedures
• Perform in first scrub, first assist, and second scrub roles as needed
• Serve as a resource and informal lead, mentoring and training other surgical technologists, students, and RNs
• Anticipate and respond to intra-operative case changes and emergencies with composure
• Perform case closing activities, including dressing application and patient transfer
• Collaborate closely with the circulating RN, including accurate and timely counts
• Communicate effectively with the surgical team, distinguishing between urgent and routine needs
• Maintain patient privacy and uphold professional conduct in the operating room
