Job summary

Newsandtribune seeks a Certified Surgical Technologist for a hospital Operating Room position. The role requires at least 1 year of surgical tech experience, and the candidate will scrub in under RN supervision.

Day shift 6:45 AM–5:15 PM, 40 hours over 4 days, on-call, with weekend and holiday rotations. EPIC EMR is used; keep a sterile environment and support perioperative teamwork.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of surgical technologist experience.
• Associate's degree or surgical technology certificate required.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
• IDPH Fingerprinting required.
• License required if applicable.
• Ability to independently scrub basic surgical procedures.
• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, microbiology, pharmacology.
• Applied knowledge of electricity, chemistry, computers, robotics, and lasers in the surgical setting.
• Understanding of sterile technique and perioperative teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Hospital Operating Room setting.
• Day shift 6:45 AM to 5:15 PM with Wednesdays off.
• 40 hours per week over 4 days.

• Weekend and holiday shifts on a rotating basis.
• EPIC EMR charting used.
• Function as first, second, or assisting Surgical Technician under RN supervision during the intraoperative period.
• Maintain sterile environment through aseptic principles.
• Provide age-specific obstetrical care per department policy.
• Assist with supplies and equipment organization.
• Participate in room turnover, setup, and equipment maintenance.
• Perform sterilization and disinfection procedures and document loads per policy.
• Charge for equipment and supplies used during procedures.
• Maintain a safe environment for patients, coworkers, and self; adhere to safety and legal requirements.
• RTO not to exceed 7 total days per 13-week contract.
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates not accepted.
