Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Step Down/Telemetry unit in a teaching hospital setting. Requires VA or compact RN license, BLS/ACLS, and Epic EMR experience. Minimum 1 year in step down/telemetry with exposure to cardiac patients.

Day shift, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM, 4x12s, with alternating weekends and holidays. Travel with housing and licensure reimbursements supported. Preferred BSN and trauma center exposure.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in VA or compact state; license must be in hand by start date.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required.
• Minimum 1 year of Step Down/telemetry nursing experience.
• Epic EMR charting experience.
• BSN degree preferred.
• Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I or II experience preferred.
• Proficiency with IV therapy, central/PICC lines, arterial lines, and blood product administration.
• Experience with respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, and tracheostomy management.
• Experience monitoring and interpreting cardiac dysrhythmias and responding to rapid response/code situations.
• Two professional references required.

Responsibilities

• Step Down unit (PCU/DOU/IMC) within a hospital setting.
• Cardiac telemetry patient population with 1:3 patient ratios.
• Day shift schedule, 4x12 hours, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
• Every other weekend and every other holiday required, with 2 of 3 winter holidays covered.
• Uses Epic EMR system.
• Subject to UVA's facility float policy.
• Provide direct patient care to cardiac telemetry and step down level patients, including medication management and dysrhythmia monitoring.
• Perform wound care, isolation precautions, and management of insulin drips as needed.
• Float within scope of practice per facility policy.
• Maximum of 40 hours RTO approved per 13-week contract; must be disclosed at time of submission.
• Any planned vacation between sign date and start date must be disclosed to determine an appropriate start date.
• Previous UVA Health employees (permanent staff or travelers) must have at least a 1-year separation and leadership approval before returning.
• External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days at this facility.
• First-time travelers may be considered for this position.
• Local candidates accepted for this unit.
