Job summary

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in Charlottesville, VA. A VA or compact RN license and Epic charting experience are required, along with BLS certification and at least one year of relevant RN experience.

This assignment involves a night shift (3×12s), 1:4–1:5 patient ratios, and a block scheduling option. The program offers housing and licensure reimbursement, travel support, and comprehensive benefits from day one.

Qualifications

• Active VA or compact RN license required (pending license accepted, must be in hand by the Wednesday before start date).
• BLS certification required.
• Minimum 1 year of relevant RN experience required.
• Epic charting experience required.
• BSN preferred.
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred.
• Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• 12-bed MS/Tele unit with a 1:4 to 1:5 patient ratio.
• Patient population includes respiratory illnesses, renal illnesses, diabetes, sepsis, cellulitis, infections, heart failure, sickle cell, and cystic fibrosis.
• Night shift, 3x12 hours (19:00-7:00).
• Every other weekend required.
• Must work 2 of the 3 winter holidays.
• 36 or 48 hour schedules available; block scheduling cannot be guaranteed.
• Floating required within scope of practice per facility policy.
• Provide direct patient care on a busy Med/Surg Telemetry unit handling complex medical conditions.
• Complete specialty-specific orientation modules during onboarding.

• Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Skilled in respiratory care, chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, isolation precautions/PPE, wound care/wound vac, and IV insulin protocols including drip titration
• Tracheostomy care/management experience preferred

• Maximum of 40 hours RTO approved per 13-week contract; no additional time off approved after offer acceptance, and time off is not approved around Christmas
• Any vacation planned between sign date and start date must be disclosed prior to scheduling
• No radius restriction applies to this unit
• Previous permanent staff or internal/external traveler employment requires at least 1 year separation and leadership approval
• External travelers may not exceed 365 total assignment days and are not eligible to return after reaching that limit
• First-time travelers may be considered for this position
