Job summary

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care/Stepdown Unit night shift position requiring telemetry and critical thinking skills for medically complex patients.

The role includes a 18:00-06:30 night shift, a 13-week assignment, and responsibilities across monitoring, admissions, and collaborative patient care in a 26-bed unit. Local candidates considered with distance-based adjustments.

Qualifications

• Active RN license (IN or Compact) required.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA) required.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant nursing experience required.
• Nursys verification required within 30 days prior to start.
• Primary source license verification required within 30 days prior to start.
• Documentation required: full SS# and DOB, driver's license copy, 2 separate references, skills checklist, and certification copies.

Responsibilities

• 26-bed Progressive Care/Stepdown Unit treating cardiac, neuro/stroke, post-operative, respiratory, and general med/surg overflow patients.
• Night shift schedule from 18:00-06:30.
• 13-week assignment length.
• Manages patients with telemetry monitoring, IV drips, central lines, PICC lines, oxygen therapy, and CPAP/BiPAP as appropriate.
• May float to other med/surg units.
• Provide direct patient care for medically complex patients requiring frequent monitoring and specialized interventions.
• Perform comprehensive assessments including respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, and hemodynamic status.
• Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, vital signs, and lab results, notifying providers of changes.
• Administer medications including IV medications per physician orders and hospital policy.
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, case management, and other disciplines.
• Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions.
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the EMR.
• Recognize signs of patient deterioration and elevate care or activate rapid response as needed.
• Adhere to infection prevention, fall precautions, and patient safety protocols.
• Local candidates accepted, though a radius rule may apply at a reduced rate depending on distance from the facility.
