American Traveler, LLC. seeks an experienced RN for a Neuro PCU night shift position in Virginia. The role requires an active VA or Compact RN license and prior telemetry/step-down experience.

You will work in a Level I trauma teaching hospital with 24/7 neuro coverage. Responsibilities include caring for adults with neurological conditions, stroke management, epilepsy monitoring, and 24/7 coverage in a Magnet-designated facility.

Qualifications

• Active VA or Compact RN license required.
• BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certifications required.
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required.
• Charting system experience (EMR) required.

Responsibilities

• Care for neuro PCU patients including stroke and epilepsy monitoring.
• Night shift 3x12 hours, 6:45pm-7:15am.
• Floating to units within clinical skillset as needed.
• Epic EMR experience required.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro PCU night shift position requiring an active VA or Compact RN license and prior telemetry/stepdown experience.

Requirements

• Active Virginia State or Compact RN license required (pending license accepted only for single-state candidates from non-compact states)
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Charting system experience required (any EMR)
• Skilled in cardiac monitoring and emergency response, including dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Experience with Rapid Response/Code teams
• Proficient in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
• Experience managing cardiac drips without titration
• Skilled in respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
• Knowledge of isolation precautions and PPE use
• Two professional references required for consideration
• PDF copies of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration

Responsibilities

• Neuro Progressive Care Unit within an acute care teaching hospital
• Adult patient population with neurological conditions including neurosurgical recovery, stroke management, and medical overflow
• Includes 5 dedicated beds for continuous 24-hour epilepsy monitoring
• Patient ratios of 1:4-5
• Night shift, 3x12 hours, 6:45pm-7:15am
• Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule block
• Epic EMR experience required
• Floating required to units within clinical skillset
• Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2 weeks
• Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
• Provide direct nursing care to neurological patients including stroke, epilepsy monitoring, and neurosurgical recovery cases
• Facility is a Level I Trauma Center and Magnet-designated teaching hospital affiliated with a medical school
• Certified Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center with 24/7 neurointerventional coverage
• Prior charge nurse experience preferred but not required
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates within 100 miles are generally not accepted, though limited exceptions exist for certain distance ranges with assignment restrictions
• Previous employees must have a minimum one-year break before returning as a traveler
• Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, with exceptions reviewed case by case
• All RTO and scheduling requests must be submitted upfront, and blocked scheduling may be accommodated
