American Traveler is seeking a skilled Travel RN for a Neuro/Ortho/ICU progressive care unit in Des Moines, IA. You will work nights in a 4x12 schedule on a 25-bed unit, caring for neuro and orthopedic patients with a 1:5 to 1:6 staff ratio.

American Traveler is hiring a night shift RN for a Progressive Care Unit with required neuro, ortho, and stepdown experience plus IA/compact RN licensure.

Details
  • Surg/Neuro/Ortho Progressive Care Unit within a hospital setting
  • 25-bed unit with heavy neuro trauma, neurosurgery, craniectomy, and ortho patient population
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:5 to 1:6
  • Night shift, 4x12s, with option for 48 or 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation required (every other weekend for 48-hour schedules or every third weekend for 36-hour schedules)
  • No on-call requirements
  • Required to float across IMMC, ILH, and MWH campuses
  • Uses Epic EMR
Requirements
  • Active IA or compact/multistate RN license required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification (AHA or ARC)
  • NIHSS certification preferred, may be obtained during onboarding
  • Minimum 24 months of Medical Surgical, IMCU, Stepdown, or Progressive Care experience in a hospital setting required
  • Neurology/neurosurgery care experience required
  • Ortho/orthopedic care experience required
  • Trauma care experience highly preferred, Level I trauma experience highly preferred
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Experience with Heparin, PCA, and 3% Sodium/Na drips required
  • Experience with telemetry, chest tubes, and Airvo highly preferred
  • EKG/strip reading and telemetry experience required
  • De-escalation certification preferred (CPI, MOAB, MAB, or SAMA)
  • Skills checklist specific to Medical Surgical, IMCU, Stepdown, or Progressive Care required
  • Driver's license required for consideration
  • Professional reference from a supervisor within the last 24 months preferred
  • Must have completed at least one prior travel assignment within the last 12 months
Additional Information
  • Provide care for a heavy neuro trauma, neurosurgery, and orthopedic patient population
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Must be at least 50 miles from the facility based on driver's license address
  • Prior UPH FTE or PRN float pool employees are restricted from travel assignments at other UPH market facilities within 12 months
  • Required to work 1-2 of the 3 upcoming summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day) unless the unit is closed
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this role
