Job summary

American Traveler, LLC. is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU transplant stepdown unit, requiring VA or compact RN license and Epic charting experience. The role includes 1:3-5 patient ratios, 3x12-hour days, and every-other weekend with holiday requirements.

Required are BLS/ACLS, minimum 2 years of RN experience, and Epic EMR proficiency. BSN preferred; teaching hospital experience is a plus and housing/travel reimbursements may be offered.

Responsibilities

• Floating within scope of practice per facility policy.
• Provide direct nursing care to complex transplant and stepdown patients.
• Epic EMR experience required.
• First-time travelers may be considered.

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU transplant stepdown unit requiring a VA or compact RN license and Epic charting experience.

Requirements

• Active VA or compact RN license required (pending license accepted if in hand by the Wednesday before start)
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• BSN preferred
• Epic charting system experience required
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, central and peripheral line care, blood product administration, and port access/management
• Arterial line management, PICC line management, and starting/maintaining IVs preferred
• Experience with cardiac telemetry, MS/Tele, or PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown units
• Experience managing vasoactive drips (no titration), heparin protocols, and PCA preferred
• Skilled in respiratory care including high flow nasal cannula, nasal cannula, and non-invasive airway management
• Experience interpreting and managing dysrhythmias and using rapid response/code teams
• Knowledge of isolation precautions/PPE and wound care/wound vac preferred
• Experience with IV insulin protocols and insulin drip titration
• Experience with pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care preferred
• Experience managing surgical drains preferred

Responsibilities

• Stepdown transplant unit within a progressive care unit (PCU)
• Patients often require arterial line monitoring, peritoneal dialysis, LIP-managed vasoactive drip medications, post-biopsy care, and complex glucose management
• Patient ratio of 1:3-5
• Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 AM-7:00 PM)
• 36 or 48 hour scheduling options available, block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
• Every other weekend required, along with 2 of 3 winter holidays
• Floating required within scope of practice per facility policy
• Epic EMR experience required
• Provide direct nursing care to complex transplant and stepdown patients requiring close monitoring and specialized interventions
• First-time travelers may be considered, preferably with academic medical center or transplant patient experience
• Candidates with prior permanent employment at the facility must have a 1-year separation and leadership approval before returning as a traveler
• External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days at the facility and are not eligible to return once this limit is reached
• Maximum of 40 hours RTO allowed per 13-week contract, with no additional RTO approved after offer acceptance
• Any pre-start vacation time must be disclosed prior to confirming a start date
