Job description

American Traveler is hiring a Telemetry RN for a Medsurg/Cardiac Observation unit requiring the ability to read cardiac strips and experience with set-rate Cardizem and Amiodarone drips.

Requirements

• Active WV or Compact RN license
• BLS and ACLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips
• Experience with set-rate Cardizem and Amiodarone drips required
• Experience with TR Bands is a plus
• Unexpired copy of driver's license required for consideration

Responsibilities

• Work on a 21-bed Medsurg and Cardiac Observation unit, typically staffed at 18 beds
• Acute care setting using EPIC EMR
• Average patient ratio of 1:6
• Patient population includes pre/post cath, chest pain rule-outs on heparin drips, COPD, CHF, pacers, arrhythmias, and general MedSurg diagnoses
• Set-rate Cardizem and Amiodarone drips managed on the unit, with occasional Bumex and Lasix
• No drip titration required
• Tele monitor techs located on a separate floor, but RNs must read and interpret cardiac strips using a real-time unit monitor
• Charge Nurse coverage on the unit 24/7, with Night Charge always taking patients
• Nurse Aide support at 1:10 ratio (occasionally 1:14-15) for EKGs, bladder scans, FSBS, ADLs, and vitals
• CPAP and BiPAP used for supportive therapy only; no high-flow equipment
• 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a)
• Every-other-weekend requirement for night shift (Fri/Sat/Sun)
• Floating required, potentially to ICU or Stepdown, within skillset
• Occasional call or standby possible during low census periods
• Fast-paced unit that can discharge up to 6 patients per day and admit 6 or more
• Orientation includes 1 day of computer training and 1 day of shadowing with a preceptor before working independently
• Scrub color is royal blue; scrub jackets optional but must be actual scrub jackets (no hoodies or sweat-jackets)
• All time-off requests must be submitted upfront and included in the contract; requests made afterward require facility approval
• Travelers are typically the first to float when needed
• Must reside 50+ miles from the facility to qualify as a traveler
• Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have completed a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than a cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
