Job summary

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Med/Surg unit in West Virginia. Requires 2 years of RN experience and a valid WV or compact license, with BLS certification. EPIC EMR experience preferred and a driving record check is required for consideration.

This travel assignment features 12-hour day shifts (7a-7p), rotating weekends and holidays, and support from a full care team. A generous housing allowance and per diem options are available to eligible travelers.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Acute care Med/Surg unit with Level 2 trauma designation
• Patient ratios typically 1:5-6, up to 7 depending on acuity
• Care for CHF, post-cardiac cath, chest pain, pneumonia, renal disease, COPD, orthopedic and oncology cases
• EPIC EMR used for charting
• 12-hour day shifts (7a-7p)
• Every-other-weekend requirement (Sat/Sun)
• Holiday rotation with permanent staff
• Charge nurse and CNA support on every shift
• RNs must read and interpret telemetry strips
• RT available 24/7 for CPAP/BiPAP; aerosols by RNs
• IV team available house-wide until 10pm on weekdays and 3:30pm weekends
• In-house pharmacy available 24/7 (Accudose)
• Possible floating to Critical Care with med/surg or stepdown patients
• Provide direct patient care on a busy Med/Surg unit with diverse case mix
• Royal blue scrubs required; no false nails
• Block scheduling options discussed with travel-friendly manager
• Must reside outside 50-mile radius for travel eligibility
• Returning travelers must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying to WVU Medicine
• Cumulative WVU Medicine experience restricted to 1 year without 2-year break
• New travelers welcome; local candidates not accepted

Responsibilities

• Acute care setting on a Level 2 trauma Med/Surg unit
• Patient ratios typically 1:5-6, occasionally up to 7 depending on acuity
• Common diagnoses include CHF, cardiac cath, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, orthopedic, and oncology cases
• EPIC EMR used for charting
• 12-hour day shifts (7a-7p)
• Every-other-weekend requirement (Sat/Sun)
• Holiday rotation required alongside permanent staff
• Charge nurse and CNA support available on every shift
• Monitor techs available for telemetry, though RNs must be able to read and interpret strips
• RT available 24/7 for CPAP/BiPAP management, with RNs performing aerosols on non-vented patients and EKGs
• IV team available house-wide until 10pm weekdays and 3:30pm weekends
• In-house pharmacy available 24/7 using Accudose
• Possible floating to Critical Care with med/surg or stepdown type patient assignments
• Provide direct patient care on a busy Med/Surg unit with a diverse case mix
• Royal blue scrub color required
• No false nails permitted
• 1-2 shifts of floor-specific orientation with a preceptor provided
• Manager is open to block scheduling requests and is considered very traveler-friendly
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius to qualify for travel candidate consideration
• Returning travelers must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying to any WVU Medicine location
• Cumulative work history within WVU Medicine facilities cannot exceed one year without a 2-year break
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates are not accepted for this position
