Job summary

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN for a 13-week acute care assignment requiring BLS and NIHSS certification. Active WV or compact RN license, 2+ years of Med/Surg experience, and no on-call requirements are required.

Shifts are 12 hours (day/night rotating) with a 1:6–1:7 nurse-to-patient ratio. EPIC EMR is used; telemetry is monitored remotely. A housing allowance and licensure reimbursements are provided to travelers.

Qualifications

• BLS (AHA) certification required.
• NIHSS certification required.
• Acute care Med/Surg experience required.

Responsibilities

• Care for patients in a 30-bed Med/Surg unit in an acute care hospital.
• Titrate heparin drips based on aPTT results.
• Monitor telemetry remotely; use EPIC EMR for documentation.
• Collaborate with charge RN and PCTs to provide direct care.
• Manage a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6 to 1:7; participate in unit staffing.

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN for a 13-week acute care assignment requiring BLS and NIHSS certification.

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• NIHSS certification required
• Acute care Med/Surg experience required
• Unexpired driver's license copy required for consideration

Responsibilities

• Med/Surg unit (30 beds) in an acute care hospital setting
• Patient population includes CHF, COPD, cellulitis, R/O, chole, appy, pneumonia, urosepsis, and AKI cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6, up to 1:7
• Charge RN present on the floor in addition to assigned staff
• PCTs available on the unit for support
• RNs required to titrate heparin drips based on aPTT results
• Intermittent BIPAP used; no ventilators on unit
• Telemetry monitored remotely by monitor techs
• EPIC EMR used
• 12-hour day/night rotating shifts with weekends as scheduled (approximately half of total weekends)
• No standby or on-call requirement
• Floating required as needed based on census, with external travelers floated first
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Provide direct patient care within a busy Med/Surg unit handling a variety of medical-surgical diagnoses
• Collaborate with charge RN and PCT support staff
• Must disclose any licensing history at time of consideration
• Local candidates within a 50-mile radius will not be considered as travelers
• Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine facility must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than a year without taking a 2-year break, with cumulative experience applied
