American Traveler, LLC. is hiring an experienced RN for a Telemetry unit on a 13-week night shift assignment requiring NIHSS certification and CA licensure.

The role encompasses care across the 300 unit and main unit with a 1:4 patient ratio, using Cerner EMR and Philips telemetry monitoring. Relias testing and sterile technique assessments are required on day one orientation, with travel housing and licensure support provided.

Qualifications

• Active CA RN license (Standard or Compact) required.
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS.
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required.
• Must pass Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation.
• Must pass sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line changes on first day of orientation.

Responsibilities

• Telemetry unit includes 300 unit (14 beds) and a main unit (44 beds).
• Maintain patient ratio of 1:4.
• Care for surgical, ortho, and medical patients; may require heparin drips.
• Care for cardiac stepdown patients including post cath, post pacemaker, post PCI, TAVR day 1+, CABG day 1+, sepsis, and respiratory distress.
• Uses Cerner EMR; Philips telemetry monitoring with dedicated monitor tech support.
• Common drips include amiodarone, heparin, cardizem, fixed-rate insulin, nitro, and dopamine (renal dosing).
• No ventilator management, though BiPAP/CPAP may be used.
• Respiratory therapy available 24/7; after-hours pharmacy support via Marian after 10pm.
• In-house hospitalist or intensivist on-call after hours.
• Night shift: 12-hour shifts 6pm–6am; every other weekend in 4-week cycle.
• Floating between 300 unit and main unit; travelers prioritized for float.

Requirements

• Active CA RN license (Standard or Compact) required, pending licenses not accepted


• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS


• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required


• Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) prior to offer confirmation


• Must pass a sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on first day of orientation


• Copy of driver's license required for consideration


• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Responsibilities

• Acute care MedSurg/Telemetry unit divided into a 300 unit (14 beds) and a main unit (44 beds)


• Patient ratio of 1:4


• 300 unit cares for surgical, ortho, and medical patients, occasionally requiring heparin drips


• Main unit cares for cardiac stepdown patients including post cath, post pacemaker, post PCI, TAVR day 1+, CABG day 1+, sepsis, and respiratory distress


• Uses Cerner EMR


• Philips telemetry monitoring with dedicated monitor tech support, nurses read their own strips


• Common drips include amiodarone, heparin, cardizem, fixed-rate insulin, nitro, and dopamine (renal dosing only)


• No ventilator management, though BiPAP/CPAP may be used


• Respiratory therapy available 24/7, pharmacy available with after-hours support via Marian after 10pm


• In-house hospitalist or intensivist available on-call after hours


• No charge nurse or IV team on the unit


• Night shift schedule, 12-hour shifts from 6pm to 6am


• Every other weekend requirement (4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule)


• Floating required between the 300 unit and main unit, with travelers prioritized first to float


• No guaranteed on-call requirements


• Provide telemetry-level nursing care across both the surgical/ortho/medical unit and the cardiac stepdown unit


• Supported by nurse aides on each shift (one on nights, one on mids, three to four on days)


• 6 hours of unit-specific orientation provided


• Navy scrub color required


• Holiday coverage required, worked in rotation with permanent staff


• Candidates who fail Relias or sterile technique testing on the second attempt become ineligible for 6 months at this health system


• Candidates directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by this health system within the past year are not eligible, though those employed PRN through outside firms will be considered
