American Traveler, LLC. is seeking an experienced RN for a Surgical ICU travel position at a busy Level 1 Trauma center. TX or Compact RN license and critical care experience are required.

The role features a 12-hour night shift (7p-7a), 44 hours weekly, and the possibility of floating to other ICUs as needed. Strong telemetry and communication skills are essential.

Competenze

• Active TX or Compact RN license required.
• Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience; 3+ years and travel experience preferred.
• BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certifications required.
• Experience with CRRT, hemodynamic monitoring, chest tubes, ventilators, and surgical drains.
• Strong critical thinking and clear provider communication skills.
• Experience reading telemetry strips (Phillips monitors).
• Prior busy, high-acuity hospital experience preferred.

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Surgical ICU position at a busy Level 1 Trauma center requiring a TX or compact RN license and critical care experience.

Requirements

• Active TX or Compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of recent experience required; 3+ years and prior travel experience preferred
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Experience with CRRT, hemodynamic monitoring, chest tubes, ventilators, and surgical drains
• Strong critical thinking, early recognition of patient decline, and clear provider communication skills
• Experience reading own telemetry strips (Phillips monitors)
• Prior experience in a busy, high-acuity hospital setting preferred
• Driver's license copy required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Responsibilities

• 12-bed Surgical ICU (6CA) within an acute care, Level 1 Trauma hospital
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2 or 1:3 depending on downgrade, acuity, or emergency admission
• Patient population includes liver/kidney transplant, vascular surgery, ENT/cancer, abdominal surgery, and complex post-surgical cases
• Requires titration of drips such as vasopressors, sedatives, and analgesics
• Uses EPIC EMR
• Night shift schedule, 7p-7a, every other weekend
• 12-hour shifts with 44 guaranteed hours per week
• No self-scheduling; schedule based on unit needs
• Floating required to other ICUs within the hospital based on skill set
• Standby requirement only if unit closes for low census (rare)
• Charge nurse present each shift, typically taking a full patient assignment
• Intensivist and APP coverage on unit 24/7, with RT support 24/7
• Provide critical care nursing to surgical ICU patients including transplant, vascular, ENT, and abdominal surgery cases
• Collaborate with intensivists, APPs, and respiratory therapists as part of a 24/7 care team
• Patient care techs available intermittently at a 1:12 ratio for ADLs, glucose checks, and transport assistance
• Weekend requirement of 4-6 shifts per 6 weeks depending on coverage needs
• Dress code: teal scrub bottoms with black or coordinating printed scrub top; no fleece jackets; no shellac, dip, or acrylic nails
• 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
• Daily and monthly parking available on or off campus at an additional cost
• First-time travelers may be considered if experience requirements are met
• Candidates with direct employment history with CommonSpirit/CHI/Dignity facilities within the past year are not eligible
