Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 1 Trauma ICU travel assignment in Nebraska. Requires NE or Compact licensure and prior critical care experience. The position features an 18-bed unit with adult and pediatric trauma patients and a 12-hour night shift schedule.

Candidate must have ACLS, BLS, NIHSS active; must be comfortable titrating high-acuity drips and interpreting telemetry independently. A valid driver's license and references are required for consideration.

Qualifications

• Active RN license (NE or Compact).
• Minimum 2 years of recent critical care experience.
• ACLS, BLS, NIHSS active and not pending.
• Trauma ICU or Level 1 trauma experience in acute care.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Provide Level 1 Trauma ICU care in an 18-bed unit.
• Titrate vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics.
• Interpret telemetry and read own strips; operate diversified monitoring equipment.
• Utilize EPIC EMR and central monitoring systems.
• Work 12-hour night shifts; self-scheduling managed by the unit manager.
• Float to other inpatient units as needed.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level 1 Trauma ICU position requiring NE or compact licensure and prior critical care experience.

Requirements

• Active RN license (NE or Compact) required, pending licenses not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of recent experience required
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS, all active and not pending
• Trauma ICU or critical care experience required in an acute care, Level 1 trauma setting
• Must be comfortable titrating high-acuity drips and interpreting telemetry independently
• Driver's license required for consideration and used to verify residence distance from facility
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Responsibilities

• Level 1 Trauma ICU within an acute care hospital setting, the only Level 1 trauma center in the system
• 18-bed unit caring for adult and pediatric patients (15+ years) with trauma injuries, sepsis, stroke, ARDS, MODS, COPD, and cardiac arrest
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1-2 in ICU and 1:4 in PCU
• Utilizes EPIC EMR
• 12-hour night shifts from 1830-0630
• Self-scheduling managed by the unit manager based on unit needs
• Requires 4 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period
• Floating required to all inpatient units excluding Maternity/NICU
• RNs titrate vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
• Charge nurse present on each shift and takes a patient assignment
• Patient care techs available at a 1:18 ratio
• Uses CVP, IABP, Impella, A-lines, Swan-Ganz, EV-1000, and ICP monitoring equipment with real-time training available
• Uses Zoll-Thermoguard for hypothermia protocol and Belmont rapid transfuser
• Draeger centralized telemetry monitoring with no dedicated tele techs; RNs must read and interpret their own strips
• Respiratory support ranges from nasal cannula to ventilators
• Provide critical care nursing to trauma, medical, and surgical ICU patients in a fast-paced environment
• Unit values critical thinking, a positive attitude, and strong teamwork
• 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided, plus a pass/fail skills exam during general orientation requiring a 90% score
• Navy blue scrub color required
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply may result in contract termination
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible, verified via driver's license
• Candidates may not have been employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year
• Manager interview required for consideration
• First-time travelers will not be accepted for this position
• Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved after submission
